3 Components of REAP
Education
- Students undergo a 4-day workshop to be educated in sustainable development, climate change & energy, behavioural change and energy audits
- Workshop starts in June 2012.
Community Service
- Students will team up in pairs to assist selected households in the South West district to reduce their energy consumption for a 3 month monitoring period (July to September 2012). Each student pair will work with an estimated 3 to 5 households.
- Prizes will be given for winning households that achieve the greatest energy savings during the energy monitoring period. Students that help these winning households will also stand to win prizes.
- South West CDC and PowerSeraya will assist students to screen suitable households and facilitate arrangements for house visits.
- Each student will be given a one-off S$240 transport allowance to cover the transport costs during the household energy monitoring period.
- Each group of students will be entrusted with a household allowance to help the households save energy. The allowance (S$200 per household) is to be used for the purchase of energy saving fittings/devices.
- Students are given free play as to the frequency of visits to the households and the means to achieve the greatest energy savings during the 3-month energy monitoring period.
Project Work
- Students will embark on energy conservation projects for a 4-month period (September to December 2012). Projects do not necessarily need to be linked to the community service component. Students can choose to pursue energy conservation projects individually on their own or form a team of no more than 3 students per project.
- Projects do not have to be technical in nature. It can also cover the social change aspects of energy conservation.
- There are no requirements for projects to be implemented. Choice of pre‐defined projects by PowerSeraya or student's preferred projects are subject to approval.
- Students can leverage on existing school projects and modify them for the REAP. However, in the spirit of this programme, students must demonstrate that their projects help the community (e.g. schools, households, businesses) on energy conservation.
